Fifteen years.
Four chapters.

The story starts on a market stall at thirteen. It runs through a national retail platform, two years on the road selling face to face, and lands at the kind of digital partner I wish I'd had when I was running my own business.

  1. Age 13

    A market stall.

I started selling on a market stall at 13. Before I could drive, I understood margins, stock, and what people actually want to spend money on. That's where it started — not in a marketing degree, not on LinkedIn, but standing behind a folding table watching real people decide whether to part with real cash.

  2. Door to door

    Two years on the road.

I spent two years walking into hundreds of independent businesses across the South of England, selling face to face. Cafés, salons, gyms, boutiques, gift shops. I learned more about how small businesses actually work in those two years than most digital consultants learn in a career.

I learned what owners actually worry about. I learned which marketing pitches make them roll their eyes. And I learned that the gap between "good digital advice" and "advice that fits a small business" is enormous.

  3. Co-founder

    A national retail platform.

I co-founded a platform with 800+ independent businesses, £1m+ annual revenues, and 30+ appearances in national media. I built the brand, briefed the tech, ran the marketing, and onboarded every single retailer personally.

By the end of nine years I'd run launches, written press releases that landed in the broadsheets, sat across from procurement teams at major retailers, and shipped a lot of digital — some of it good, some of it expensive lessons.

  4. Today

    Sort The Clicks.

I know what good digital looks like because I've built it at scale. I know what a wasted budget looks like because I've spent one. And I know what it feels like to be the business owner on the other side of this conversation — because I've been that person too.

Sort The Clicks is the agency I wish had existed when I was scaling that platform. One person, accountable. No portal, no account manager, no jargon. See what we do →

Most agencies are run by marketers. We're not.

Most digital agencies are run by marketers who've never run a small business. Sort The Clicks is run by someone who has.

That means we know the difference between digital work that looks good and digital work that actually moves the needle. We've spent the wasted budgets. We've made the strategic mistakes. We've sat on the other side of the table.

When we tell you to skip something, listen. When we tell you to invest in something, that's because we've seen it work — for hundreds of businesses, over fifteen years.

Things people ask
before getting in touch.

Five quick answers about who does the work, where we're based, and how to engage us.

Who actually does the work?

Dan Whytock. Every project is delivered by Dan personally — design, build, copy, strategy, ongoing support. There's no account manager, no junior team, no offshoring. You speak to the person doing the work. That's the entire point of Sort The Clicks.

What makes Sort The Clicks different from a typical agency?

Most digital agencies are run by marketers who've never run a small business themselves. Sort The Clicks is run by someone who has — co-founded a national independent retail platform from 2013 to 2022 that helped 800+ small businesses trade digitally. That means we know the difference between work that looks good and work that actually moves the needle.

Are you based in Hertfordshire only?

Sort The Clicks is based in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, but works UK-wide and worldwide remotely. About half of clients are within an hour of Hertfordshire; the rest are scattered across the UK and occasionally further afield. The work is the same wherever you are.

How long has Sort The Clicks been operating?

Sort The Clicks the brand launched in 2025, but Dan has been building and marketing digital businesses for fifteen years — including co-founding and running a national retail platform from 2013 to 2022 that generated £1.5m in annual revenue and earned 30+ national media appearances.

Can I just hire you for one piece of work, or do I need a retainer?

Either works. Most engagements are fixed-price one-off projects (brand, website, GEO audit). For ongoing work, the Growth Partner retainer bundles maintenance, AI search visibility and paid ads. No long-term contracts on retainers — 30 days notice if you want to stop.
